OpenAI returns as Palou's primary sponsor

OpenAI, which serves as an associate sponsor for Chip Ganassi Racing and took the primary spot last season at Mid-Ohio with Alex Palou’s No. 10 Honda, is back for two more events as the primary with this weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and August’s Freedom 250 in Washington D.C.

The company behind ChatGPT and an array of other artificial intelligence products also assists the Ganassi team with tools that are used in competition with data analysis and decision making.

“We are so proud of what we’re building with Chip Ganassi Racing, a hands-on collaboration where AI becomes part of the team, helping make sense of complex data, strengthening communication, and supporting faster decisions in the moments that matter most,” said OpenAI’s Sarah Russell.

“Together, we are exploring how AI can empower the people and processes that power performance on track—ultimately opening up new possibilities for how teams perform everywhere.”

The team also announced OpenAI has hired Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive To Survive director Rob Wills to create a documentary that will debut this summer, which depicts how Ganassi and OpenAI work together in IndyCar.
