TOPEKA, Kan. (July 29, 2004) – Sports Car Club of America, Inc. announced today a new partnership between its Club Racing Worker of the Year program and Yokohama Tire Corporation. In addition to awarding all 13 Workers of the Year a set of Yokohama tires, one lucky winner (along with a guest) will travel to the 2005 24 Hours of Le Mans to be Yokohama’s guest for the event.
The SCCA Club Racing Worker of the Year program annually recognizes the outstanding efforts of individuals in 13 separate race worker specialties, including: Course Marshall, Emergency Services, Flagging & Communications, Grid, Paddock, Pit, Race Chair, Radio Tech, Registration, Scrutineer, Sound, Starter and Timing & Scoring.
“We’re pleased to have Yokohama Tires step in to sponsor the Yokohama Tire Worker of the Year program,” SCCA Vice President of Marketing Garret Mudd said. “Yokohama’s involvement has boosted the program. What better way to reward an outstanding road racing worker than to send them with a guest to the biggest sports car race in the world?”
“We’re proud to support the people who support our racers,” Yokohama Director of Marketing Communications Art Michalik said. “Without the dedication of SCCA workers, there wouldn’t be road racing in the United States. We’re proud to associate our name and products with the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the SCCA Club Racing Workers of the Year.”
Yokohama Tire Workers of the Year candidates are nominated throughout the year by their peers, with the winners announced at the SCCA Club Racing Runoffs National Championships presented by Kohler, September 23 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. To nominate a candidate, either download the hard copy form or submit the online form at http://www.scca.com/Club/index.asp?reference=woy.
Winners of the 2004 Yokohama Tire Worker of the Year will each receive a set of Yokohama passenger, high performance or light truck tires. Of those winners, one will be selected for the grand prize, a trip to the 2005 24 Hours of Le Mans as a guest of Yokohama Tire with all travel expenses paid.
