KANSAS CITY, MO (February 5, 2004) – Yokohama Tire Corporation and SCCA Enterprises, Inc., today announced an innovative new points fund for drivers racing SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Spec Racer Ford (SRF) racecars.
The new points fund pays drivers for their best eight finishes among the 65 SCCA National race events held across the country each year. The fund utilizes a sliding scale that provides additional points for those drivers competing in races with larger starting fields. The total points fund is valued at over $50,000. Unlike many contingency programs offered in SCCA competition, 100 percent of these funds will be paid to drivers by the end of the year.
The top finisher in the yearlong points chase will be awarded $10,000. In addition, the winner of the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs in SRF will be awarded $3,000 from the points fund for his victory.
“We feel the type of structure that we’ve created is the best way to encourage and reward drivers for bringing their Spec Racer Ford cars out to the races,” said Jim Dickson, president of SCCA Enterprises, Inc. “We expect that in a number of cases, we’ll see significantly larger fields as a result.”
In addition to the new points fund, sponsor Yokohama Tire Corporation has announced a new tire for the Spec Racer Ford cars. The Yokohama ADVAN A048 will be phased in over the course of the 2004 season, replacing the venerable A008 tire.
“With the ADVAN A048, we bring the very latest in Yokohama’s race tire technology to the Spec Racer Ford class,” said Art Michalik, director of marketing communications for Yokohama Tire Corporation. “This is a tire that has proven itself in competition in Asia and Europe, and from our testing here in the US, has shown itself to be an excellent upgrade for the SRF cars.”
The SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) is a 60,000-member non-profit organization featuring the most active membership participation organization in motor sports today, with over 2,000 amateur and professional motor sports events each year.
