Gabriele TarquiniAugusto Farfus won an incident-filled final round of the World Touring Car Championship in Macau on Sunday, but all eyes were on Gabriele Tarquini who clinched the drivers' title.

Farfus led away cleanly at the start and held an advantage throughout the early stages of the race over his BMW teammate Jorg Muller, who was also fighting off the attention of SEAT's Yvan Muller throughout.

Their battle was suspended briefly for a safety car period when Tom Boardman crashed in the Solitude Esses. Then, after their battle briefly resumed, the race was red-flagged on lap nine following a spectacular crash at the final corner.

Felix Porteiro had run wide into the barriers and bounced back into the middle of the track, where Franz Engstler arrived sideways and hit him. Andre Couto then arrived on the scene in his SEAT and slammed into the left side of Engstler's car.

The race was red-flagged and there were initial plans to restart it, prompting tense scenes on the grid, but as the drivers got back into their cars, it was announced that the event would be abandoned. It meant Tarquini's fifth place was enough for him to clinch the championship from Muller, with SEAT taking the manufacturers' crown.
