MAVTV has acquired the rights to televise the FIA World Rally Championship from July through August, starting with the Acropolis Rally which will air at 7pm ET/PT on July 25 on MAVTV American Real.
In October 2012, the FIA appointed the WRC Promoter GmbH, a joint company of the Red Bull Media House and the Sportsman Media Group, as responsible for all commercial aspects of the WRC operation in the global television production and media rights management and distribution for all rallies on the WRC calendar.
In May 2013, the WRC Promoter GmbH sold the rights to broadcast all races in the United States to independent cable network, MAVTV, which is an independent cable television network owned and operated by international lubricant manufacturer Lucas Oil Products. MAVTV describes itself as "committed to delivering programing for the American family living an active lifestyle. The network's unique programming showcases a variety of high-end content from blockbuster movies, both modern day and classic, top-level motorsports from every corner of the country, unique action series' and adventurous travel."
The WRC Promoter GMBH is responsible for all commercial aspects of the FIA World Rally Championship including broadcast formats, TV production and the marketing of global media and sponsorship rights. The Promoter has responsibility to promote the Championship and to increase the field of participants, consisting of manufacturers and private teams. Subject to approval of the FIA, the Promoter has also the mandate to propose the venues that form the FIA WRC calendar.
