Munnich Motorsport Mercedes SLS pairing Markus Winkelhock and Marc Basseng appear set to be confirmed as GT1 World champions, despite a stewards' decision that rules against them.
AUTOSPORT understands that the car is to be disqualified from the championship race, but that would not be enough for the rival Vita4One BMW of Yelmer Buurman/Michael Bartels to outscore it in the points table.
The title protagonists collided in the season finale, in an incident that sent Buurman to hospital and caused the race to be curtailed.
As he left the race stewards' room, Winkelhock told AUTOSPORT that "I can't say anything" but it is understood that his team has an hour to appeal against the decision.
An FIA announcement is expected shortly.
