He's leading the IZOD IndyCar Series at the moment, and has become the man to beat on North America's road and street courses, but is Will Power ready to become the champion? Eight of the series' 17 races are held on ovals, where Power admits he still has much to learn – although he's probably less patient with his progress than any of the Team Penske personnel! His aim is to be “the complete package” as a driver, and this month David Malsher analyzes how close he is to achieving that in 2010.
One man who almost everyone is convinced is the complete Formula 1 driver is one of Power's junior formula rivals, Robert Kubica. In August's RACER, Mark Hughes looks at how the talented Pole has galvanized the reborn Renault team, not only putting the R30 ahead of potentially quicker cars, but also pushing every member of the team behind the scenes, and inspiring them with his work ethic.
Neither Power nor Kubica steal the show from Paul Tracy who is the subject of Bryan Herta's Racer2Racer this month (click here for some outtakes). Despite their recent past at Indy (!), the pair got along famously as they recalled the days when Indy cars had 900hp and test days were seemingly limitless, and Paul's boundless enthusiasm for racing has gotten Bryan thinking (semi-seriously) about a comeback. Complete with portraits by Lesley Ann Miller, it's a feature not to be missed.
Also in the August issue, the Red Bull Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup team's turbulent season is charted by Tom Jensen, Peter Brock relates the tales of Audi vs. Peugeot – and also event rookie Marco Andretti – at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours, Tony Stewart provides his regular insight into life as an owner/driver in NASCAR and Andrew Crask reviews the omens for the McLaren vs. Red Bull title battle in F1.
