Jaime Whincup started his V8 Supercar title defense with a comfortable victory in this evening's season opener in Abu Dhabi. The double champion led a one-two for his Triple Eight-run Team Vodafone Holden squad, ahead of teammate Craig Lowndes, whose pit strategy helped him recover from a qualifying error.

Mark Winterbottom briefly led Whincup in the early stages and ultimately took third for Ford Performance Racing, despite a penalty.

Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander and Will Davison both had troubled races, with Tander put to the back of the grid after qualifying and then delayed by incidents, and Davison halted by an engine issue.
