Anthony West is set to return to the MotoGP field in 2012 with the Speed Master team's CRT bike. The 30-year-old Australian announced the deal via social media today.
A long-time 250cc rider, West's victories in World Supersport racing earned him a call-up by the Kawasaki MotoGP team in mid-2007, as he replaced Olivier Jacque. He stayed with the squad until it pulled out of the championship at the end of 2008, taking a best result of fifth place at Brno that season. After one season back in Supersport racing, West spent the last two years riding for MZ in Moto2.
Speed Master is one of several Moto2 squads stepping up to MotoGP for 2012 via the new Claiming Rule Teams system. The team took Andrea Iannone to third in the Moto2 standings in both 2010 and '11, winning six races along the way.
