Drivers' champions will be declared in each of the four classes in the FIA World Endurance Championship next year.
The FIA, acting on a recommendation of series promoter the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, has decided to award drivers' points in LMP2 and GTE Pro and Am for the first time next season.
There will be an FIA World Cup for LM GTE Drivers and FIA Endurance Trophies awarded for the LMP2 and GTE Drivers' championships. In this season's revived WEC the only drivers' title is the overall world championship, which is effectively an LMP1-only award.
There are also manufacturers' titles in LMP1 and GTE and team awards in each class and for LMP1 privateers.
ACO president Pierre Fillon said: "We will give these important classes a new challenge and we are sure that we will see more interest in taking part in the WEC next season as a result."
