Walker Racing returns to Indy Lights with Jonathan Summerton
Walker Racing is returning to action in the Firestone Indy Lights Championship. Derrick Walker's squad announced that it has signed American driver Jonathan Summerton to compete this weekend. The Florida resident will drive the No. 40 Walker Racing entry for this weekend's season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg with backing from SimGP.com, Deans Knight Capital Management LTD, and Wasteco.
Summerton turns his sights on Indy Lights after back-to-back seasons in the Atlantic Championship. The 21-year-old Florida native has also raced also competitively in A1GP and in 2006 ran the F3 Euro Series.
“I am fortunate to have secured Jonathan's services to drive for me again," said Walker. "We have worked together before, back in 2004 in the BMW series, so it's good to be joining forces again to race at St. Petersburg. Our program came together later than I would have liked, so having Jonathan available to us was a bonus.”
Summerton ran in the 2009 Firestone Indy Lights race at St. Pete, where he finished second in race one and fourth in race two.
“I am really glad to get a chance to race in the Firestone Indy Lights Series and to be racing in Florida, close to home, will be fun. I have wanted to compete in the IZOD IndyCar Series and through Indy Lights is a great way to do it,” said Summerton.
The team plans to field Summerton for the full season, and eventually to add a second car to the program.
