Editor's note: RACER senior contributor Tony Di Zinno - not to be confused with younger cousin of the same name, RACER web editor Tony DiZinno - is set to embark on a major photography exhibition in Afghanistan. Details are below.
Senior contributor Tony Di Zinno's most recent imagery from a RACER standpoint was the September 2012 cover, a look at the steely-eyed determination of IZOD IndyCar Series driver Will Power from a shoot at the Team Penske headquarters in Charlotte. He's been a part of the RACER brand since May 1994, and his latest exploit is one of another noble cause.
Having been to Afghanistan previously, Tony is now working on “Streets of Afghanistan” – a project organized by Mountain2Mountain. As it's termed on the Kickstarter project website, a “cultural, bigger-than-life art exhibition that highlights the beauty and soul of the land and the people of Afghanistan while challenging existing perceptions of the war-torn country.”
Rather than have the standard depiction or negative stereotype perceived of Afghanistan, this project seeks to expose the daily life and passion of the nation through the work of photography, something rarely seen on the streets itself. It will be shown in Kabul.
Funding for the project is open through Sept. 15 – a full breakdown and more information is available at the below link.
Meanwhile, a video describing the event is below.
