Chris VermeulenChris Vermeulen says he is eager to see if Suzuki can maintain its improved form from Assen in this weekend's United States Grand Prix.

The Australian had his best result of 2009 in the Netherlands a week ago, qualifying seventh and taking fifth place in the race.

"At Assen we took a big step forward," said Vermeulen. "We were closer to the front and we were competitive. The bike was working well there so hopefully it's going to work well here."

Vermeulen has a very strong record at Laguna, having taken second and third in the last two MotoGP races at the track, so believes he will be well placed to capitalise if the Suzuki is on the pace again.

"This is obviously one of my favorite tracks," he said.

"I've had good results here from Superbike days, I did the double in '04, and I've had two [MotoGP] podiums here, including last year behind that race between [Casey] Stoner and [Valentino] Rossi, although I think everyone forgot I was third, it was so exciting at the front, but I remember it anyway... It's a good circuit for me, one I enjoy."
