Jordan inherits BTCC pole as Giovanardi penalized

Andrew Jordan took his first British Touring Car Championship pole position at Donington Park as qualifying ended in dramatic style. Jordan's Vauxhall team-mate Fabrizio Giovanardi ended the session with the quickest time of all, but he was stripped of his pole-setting 1m13.171s when his Vectra failed to start on the weighbridge after the chequered flag had flown. As a result, he was stripped of all his times and put back to 19th on the grid, allowing teenager Jordan to inherit the top spot, thanks to his time of 1m13.277s, which came mid-way through the half-hour session.
