Stoffel Vandoorne 2012

Formula Renault Eurocup champion Stoffel Vandoorne has confirmed that he will step up to Formula Renault 3.5 next season.

Vandoorne, who succeeded 2012 FR3.5 champion Robin Frijns as winner of the 2-litre category, has been testing for DAMS and Fortec in the off-season. At this week's Aragon test, where he is in action for both squads again across the three days, he said he was yet to decide which team to race for in 2013.

"I picked up 500,000 euros for winning the Eurocup title and this [FR3.5] is where I'm going to be driving next season," said the 20-year-old Belgian. "After these three days I hope we'll be in a position to decide which team to go for. "The sooner the decision is made the better, so we can get down to working with them straight away."

Vandoorne was only 20th fastest during the first day of testing at Aragon on Wednesday, due to red flags disrupting his morning running and engine problems in the afternoon.
