Officials of the newly revived USF2000 National Championship presented by Cooper Tire have announced the reborn series' 2010 schedule, which consists of 12 races on ovals, road courses and street circuits and runs from March through October. All but two of the races will be staged as doubleheaders to minimize travel expenses for teams participating in the Indy Racing League-sanctioned series.
While most of the schedule runs on IndyCar Series weekends, the series will take part in the traditional "Night before the 500" with a single race on the O'Reilly Raceway Park 0.686-mile oval in Indianapolis. Additional, two doubleheaders will be staged in conjunction with the Atlantic Championship and Star Mazda series on the road courses at New Jersey Motorsports Park and Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Ill. The series will wrap up its season with doubleheaders that support American Le Mans Series at Road America and Road Atlanta. (The latter date is tentative.)
“We feel our 2010 schedule offers an exciting mixture of circuits and will showcase our young drivers in front of some very important teams as they strive to make their way up racing's ladder system,” said Dan Andersen, chief executive officer of the series. “The bulk of the series will be contested on road courses, but the two ovals and the street course should also provide great learning experiences. We look forward to a terrific year!”
The announcement included a teaser about “an important announcement” that is scheduled to be made at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show in Orlando, Fla., on Dec. 10.
