The New York Times reports that lack of sponsorship could call an end to Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson's US F1 project. The newspaper reports that the team still does not have a fully built racecar and will not participate in a crash test in England that had been planned this week. There is no announced plan for track testing of the car.

“The bottom line is really simple: Sponsor money didn't come through the way it was supposed to and it has ground down the company to a halt,” the Times quotes a person with knowledge of the problems facing USF1, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “They're having trouble making payroll, they're having trouble paying suppliers and that's the situation they find themselves in.”

The Times report suggests the only realistic chance for US F1 is for the team to buy an off-the-shelf chassis. However, team backer Chad Hurley's efforts last week to secure Dallara chassis for the team from the equally troubled Campos Meta group may have been foreclosed by today's reports of a rejuvenation of the Italian start-up outfit, via new financial investment.
