TOPEKA, Kan. (Dec. 31, 2007) – Get your high horsepower fix Wednesday, Jan. 2, on SPEED, when programming from the 2007 SCCA National Championship Runoffs continues with the GT-1 and GT-2 races.
Beginning at noon (EST), Tony Ave leads the GT-1 field to the green flag in his No. 44 Bodin Masonry/Pro-Motor/Goodyear Chevrolet Corvette, but defending champion Phillip Simms gets the better start and takes the lead in the No. 11 Goodyear/Simms Motorsports Jaguar XKR. Ave only needs a couple of corners to re-take the lead and when the two cross the timing stripe to complete lap one, Ave already has nearly two seconds on Simms. Will Simms be able to find the speed to catch Ave? Tune into SPEED to find out.
Next at 1 p.m., defending GT-2 Champion Wayland Joe starts on pole in the No. 1 Porsche GT-3. As Joe leads the way through Turn One, three cars in a pack behind him get tangled and bring out the full-course caution. Joe retains the lead on the restart, but is being chased by the No. 46 Nissan/RedLine Oil Nissan 350Z of Jim Goughary. One of these drivers will pull onto pit lane early with a flat tire, watch SPEED to find out who.
If you miss the first broadcast of the GT-1 and GT-2 races on SPEED, catch them again on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., respectively. Better yet, get your very own 2007 SCCA Runoffs DVD set at www.sccacollection.com.
