Qualifying pacesetter Petter Solberg has gambled on the rain staying away from the Acropolis Rally, with his decision to run at the back of the pack through the opening day of the Greek event.
The Ford driver's fastest time at Thursday morning's qualifying stage afforded him to opportunity to select his place on the road first, and the 2003 World Rally Champion wasted no time in deciding on 13th place, the last of the World Rally Cars.
"Even if it does rain, it will dry quickly," said Solberg. "The stages are quite fast tomorrow, but they will still clean a lot. This is the best place. Now, we have to go out and try to control the rally. But this is not easy, this is what we tried to do on the last round in Argentina."
The drivers all followed in qualifying order, with Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford) and Sebastien Loeb (Citroen) second and third from the back respectively.
Mini driver Paulo Nobre will lead the field away.
