On the third day of qualifying, 11 drivers lowered the provisional pole times at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, five of which jumped ahead of the previous provisional polesitter, leaving only Thursday to capture the Gumout Pole Award for this weekend's races at Road America.
Joel Lipperini, of Pittston, Pa., jumped to the top of the Showroom Stock C charts on the windy, cool day with a lap of 2:48.614 (85.402mph) behind the wheel of the No. 81 BFG/RaceLabz/Raceshopper/Red Line Hyundai Tiburon, leapfrogging Brian Husting to take the provisional pole.
In GT-Lite, Peter Shawdowen, of Riviera Beach, Fla., turned a time of 2:34.452 (93.322mph) in the No. 72 Road N Race Auto/Goodyear/HPD/Red Line Honda CRX Si. Shawdowen passed Kent Prather, who led the first two days and remains in second. In Super Touring Over, Scott Tucker's No. 55 Microsoft Porsche 996 turned a lap of 2:16.462 (97.410mph) to move to the top of that class ahead of David Pintaric.
Mike Cyphert, of Twinsburg, Ohio, jumped from third to first in GT-3 with a record-setting lap of 2:22.005 (101.405mph) in the No. 76 Toyota Motorsports/TRD/Red Line Oil Goodyear Toyota Celica. Richard Spicer, of Laurel, Md., dropped nearly 1.6sec off his previous best Spec Racer Ford time to take the provisional pole with a 2:38.089 (91.088mph) in the No. 65 Spicer Racing Engines/Hagerman Race Spec Racer Ford.
Local driver Cliff Ebben, from Appleton, Wis., lowered his pole time in GT-1 to a 2:04.321 (115.829mph), setting a new class record in his No. 36 Lamers Motor Racing/McMahon Group Ford Mustang.
Five additional drivers lowered their existing qualifying times on Wednesday. Andy McDermid, of Williamston, Mich., dropped the American Sedan pole time to 2:27.065 (97.916mph) in his No. 24 WeatherTech/Felice Performance Engine Ford Mustang. Jim Drago, from Memphis, Tenn., lowered his Spec Miata provisional pole time to a 2:44.353 (87.616mph) in the No. 2 East Street Racing Mazda Miata.
Defending Formula 1000 champion Brandon Dixon, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., lowered the current pole time to a 2:06.119 (114.178mph) in his No. 7 Citation Engineering/Hoosier Tire Citation F1000/Suzuki. Andrew Aquilante, of Chester Springs, Pa., lowered the Touring 2 time to a 2:27.707 (97.490mph) in his No. 32 Phoenix/Hoosier/Hawk Ford Mustang GT.
In the final session of the day, Corey Fergus dropped his year-old Sports 2000 qualifying track record by 0.004sec to a 2:16.078 (105.822mph) driving the No. 07 Hoosier/Carbotech Brakes Carbir CS2/Ford.
Qualifying concludes for all 28 classes Thursday, with the best lap of the week setting the pole position for this weekend's races.

The SCCA National Championship Runoffs®, The Pinnacle of American Motorsports, will crown Sports Car Club of America's Club Racing National Champions for the 48th-consecutive year in 2011. The best amateur drivers from across North America convene on Road America's historic four-mile road course in what is considered the “Olympics” of motorsports.
