Texas Motor Speedway announced Tuesday that its twin 275 format would be retained for the 2012 edition of its IZOD IndyCar Series event. The pair of 114-lap night races replaced the traditional 500k single-race format this season. The Firestone Twin 275s – the first twin races for the IZOD IndyCar Series, although they had been run a number of times in IndyCar history – will be held June 9.

"We revamped the majority of our schedule in 2011 in an effort to give our fans some variety and uniqueness to our season, and they wanted very much of the same for 2012," said TMS president Eddie Gossage. "The first-ever Saturday night (NASCAR Sprint) Cup race was a big success, the IndyCar twins format added a unique twist and the day-to-night appeal of the AAA Texas 500 for the Chase remains a fan favorite in the fall. The Texas Motor Speedway season has a little of everything for our fans."

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series again will complement the IZOD IndyCar Series event weekend. Start times for each event will be announced at a later date.

The track's announcement made no mention of the element of the doubleheader that proved the most controversial – the random draw for start positions for the second race. IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard indicated earlier this year that the draw would be re-evaluated by IndyCar if the twin-race format was retained.
