The organizers of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, set to debut in 2012, have appointed former Churchill Downs race course chief Steve Sexton as the project's president. Sexton's background is in running horse racing venues, most recently as president and CEO of Churchill Downs Entertainment.

"Steve brings more than 25 years of major sports and entertainment management experience to our project," said USGP chief Tavo Hellmund. "He understands our aspirations as an owners group and we have every confidence he will be a tremendous asset to our operation going forward."

The Austin track is set to host the U.S. GP beginning in 2012, bringing Formula 1 back to the United States for the first time since Indianapolis' last grand prix in 2007.
