The winner of the 2010 Team USA Scholarship Shootout will be announced in two weeks at the 13th Annual Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Skip Barber National Series drivers Spencer Pigot, Felix Serralles and Ashley Freiberg were among eight drivers nominated to compete in the prestigious scholarship event which took place earlier this month. The contestants went though a series of tasks and were judged by their performance both on and off the track. Freiberg described “two 15 minute sessions in the Formula Mazdas. The first session was more about adapting to the car and the slightly different line we had to take.” National Series points leader Spencer Pigot liked “being judged by Daytona 24 Hour winners and Indy 500 champions; it was really cool.”
The two winners will receive entries in both the Formula Ford (Kent) Festival at Brands Hatch, England, Oct.16-17 and the Walter Hayes Trophy Formula Ford event at Silverstone Nov. 6-7. The young drivers of the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National presented by Mazda will be competing in their final two races of the season at Road Atlanta during Petit Le Mans from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1.
