Team Penske has unveiled an all-new "family" color scheme for its three-car IZOD IndyCar Series squad this season, ahead of today's open tests at Barber Motorsports Park outside Birmingham, Ala.
All three Team Penske machines will carry a predominantly black and white color scheme this season, in place of the familiar Marlboro/Philip Morris red and white chevrons that have been a hallmark of the team for two decades. Long-time team partner Philip Morris USA is no longer sponsoring the No. 3 and No. 6 cars, so this season marks the first time since 1990 that a Penske car will not compete in the company's traditional red and white design. Both the No. 3 and No. 6 cars of Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe will continue to carry the Team Penske design to start the season, while the No. 12 entry driven by Will Power will feature the Verizon Wireless livery throughout the year.
"This represents a change for us, but we are excited about competing with three cars this season and looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead for Team Penske," said Tim Cindric, Penske Racing president.
Testing is set to begin today at the Barber road course.
