Duncan Tappy won his first Superleague Formula race in the second event at Assen on Sunday afternoon.
Briton Tappy, driving for Japan in the Nations Cup, outbraked Australia's John Martin into Turn 1 with four laps to go to snatch the win. Tristan Gommendy led the race for France/Bordeaux, as he had for much of race one, but he slipped back in the latter stages as he struggled for grip, falling to fourth.
Antonio Pizzonia finished third for Brazil, getting the better of a sometimes frantic dice with Gommendy. They even touched wheels at the fastest point of the circuit, but both escaped unharmed.
Andy Soucek (Turkey/Galatasaray) was on target for victory, but was given a drive-through penalty with 10 laps remaining for crossing the white line at the pit exit, and he fell to seventh.
Tappy now leads the points, ahead of Martin and the Netherlands/PSV entry of opening race winner Yelmer Buurman, who only finished 10th in this one. That is the order in which they will start the big money super final that now follows.
