Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander has taken pole position for the second race of the SkyCity Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway.
Tander went to the top of the times with five minutes remaining in the session after eclipsing Craig Lowndes' best effort, and was never headed from that point on, Lowndes' effort with six minutes to go good enough to remain on the front row.
Behind them Mark Winterbottom will start third alongside Todd Kelly, with the Garry Rogers duo of Lee Holdsworth and Michael Caruso, Tander's team-mate Will Davison, James Courtney and Todd's brother Rick all closely bunched.
Alex Davison followed up his move up the order in race one with a top-ten qualifying effort, while race one winner and championship leader Jamie Whincup will start down in 13th, one place ahead of race one polesitter Jason Richards, who discovered he had a broken rear shock absorber after race one.
A pair of Stevens will start well done the order, Steven Johnson and Steven Richards starting 22nd and 23rd in their Fords.
