Qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix has been rescheduled to take place on Sunday morning following torrential rain at Suzuka on Saturday.
Storms at the track that intensified over the day meant it was never safe to let Formula 1 drivers attempt to set grid times. Despite several time delays to try and wait for a window in the weather, the FIA said at 3:18 p.m. local time that qualifying would now be shifted back to Sunday morning.
A new track inspection will take place at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, with qualifying to start at 10 a.m. – five hours before the start of the race. It is the first time since the 2004 Japanese Grand Prix that a qualifying session has had to be abandoned and shifted back to Sunday.
