SuburbanChicagoNews.com reports that the town of Waukegan, Ill., 35 miles north of downtown Chicago, is formulating plans to conduct a street race on a 1.9-mile temporary course along the town's waterfront. The city's mayor, Robert Sabonjian, is involved in the project along with a consortium of local business leaders. According to the paper, the idea is in its formative stages, with IndyCar, ALMS sports cars and motorcycles all under consideration.
"It's not easy. It's a very complicated project," Sabonjian said at a city council meeting earlier this week. "But we're doing our due diligence, (and) we would love to have something ready for 2010. But if it has to wait for 2011, we'll do it in 2011."
