Scuderia Toro Rosso pairing Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari are confident of being able to score the points needed to overhaul Sauber to take seventh in the constructors' championship.
The Italian team currently lies one point behind Sauber, but Kamui Kobayashi's fifth place in Monaco would give his team the advantage if both end up level on points. Alguersuari and Buemi line up 13th and 14th on the grid, with Kobayashi and Sauber teammate Sergio Perez 16th and 17th, giving Toro Rosso the advantage at the start of the race.
"We are aiming for seventh, but we shouldn't focus too much on this," Buemi said. "We need to focus on doing a good race.
"If we don't make any mistakes at the start or in the pit stops, we have the pace to be in the points. The possibility to do so is there and everyone feels a bit more pressure, but the important thing is to stay calm and do your work."
Both Buemi and Alguersuari expect a wet race to give Toro Rosso a greater chance of overhauling Sauber. The Spaniard qualified with less wing than Buemi, as the team has split its setup strategies to cover both wet and dry conditions. But despite having a car that could be less competitive in the wet, Alguersuari is hopeful of rain.
"I want wet weather," he said. "In dry conditions, it will be hard to score two more points than Sauber, but in the wet it will be far more open.
"I expect a race like Canada. You could be out in the first corner or finish the race in fifth. You just need to be clever on the pit stops and with the safety cars and not make any mistakes. If we finish, there will be a good opportunity to score points."
