Dean Stoneman 2011

Dean Stoneman is continuing to make progress in his fight against cancer and began a second course of chemotherapy this week. The Formula 2 champion, who had been due to race for ISR in Formula Renault 3.5 this year, has been out of action since being diagnosed with testicular cancer five months ago. The 20-year-old Briton will attend five sessions per week at Southampton General Hospital for the next four weeks as he battles the disease.

"This second stage of treatment is part of his fight against the illness," said Stoneman's manager Steve Noakes. "The specialists are in constant contact with Dean and thought that a second course of chemotherapy should start this week to maintain his great progress so far. Dean is in good spirits and is dealing with it in his usual steely way."

Stoneman recently visited his first race event of the year as he presented the trophies at the opening F2 round at Silverstone in April.
