Andretti Autosport announced Wednesday it has signed Stefan Wilson to the team's Firestone Indy Lights lineup. It will be the third season of Indy Lights for the 21-year-old Briton, who earned three top-five finishes, including one podium finish, in 11 starts in 2010.
"I'm really excited to race with Andretti Autosport this year in Firestone Indy Lights," said the younger brother of Dreyer & Reinbold IZOD IndyCar Series racer Justin Wilson (with Stefan, ABOVE). "I have two years of experience in the series behind me, and I think this year I will have the right resources and the skills necessary to put myself out front. I'm looking forward to getting out there with the team in St. Petersburg for our first race."
Stefan began racing karts at the age of nine and competed nationally and internationally for several years before launching his open-wheel racing career. 2007 brought Wilson much success, finishing second in the Formula Palmer Audi Championship, recording four wins, four poles, six fastest laps and two outright lap records. In 2007, at age 17, he also beat five other competitors to become the youngest recipient of the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award.
"It's great to have Stefan join our team. He's a good, young driver and is really hungry to win," said team boss Michael Andretti. "He's got a lot of potential and we're looking forward to seeing what we can do together this year."
