Thierry Neuville, Citroen Junior, Mexico 2012The final gravel stage of the opening day of Rally Mexico will be canceled this afternoon after the drivers voiced concerns over the security of spectators in the Ortega test.

Thierry Neuville had a stone thrown at his Citroen DS3 WRC on the first run through the stage this morning and there were also concerns that some spectators might have placed rocks on the road to try and catch some of the drivers out.

The cars are now expected to be re-routed back to Leon for the first run at the street stage around the host town. They will then go into service before completing two runs at the Leon superspecial, which takes place at the rallycross circuit on the outskirts of town.

The drivers are currently in the seventh stage of this third round of the World Rally Championship, with the big news of the afternoon being Neuville's departure after he crashed off the road in SS6.
