Portuguese club Sporting has become the latest addition to the Superleague Formula field.
The Lisbon side unveiled its car at its last league game of the season at the Jose Alvalade Stadium yesterday. It is the second Portuguese club to commit to Superleague, joining FC Porto.
"We are truly thrilled that Sporting is joining Superleague Formula in 2009," said championship president Alex Andreu. "Few fans are more passionate about both their football and motor sport than those in Portugal, so it's great that we have the country's two best clubs renewing their long-running sporting rivalries on the race track this year."
Sporting general manager Pedro Afra said the club had been impressed by the Superleague Formula's inaugural season last autumn.
"We watched the first Superleague Formula season with great interest and we were very impressed with what we saw," he said.
"We are always looking for new and exciting commercial opportunities that will appeal to our supporters."
Superleague's second year commences at Magny-Cours on 27-28 June.
