Ben Spies is expected to be confirmed today as a wildcard entry for MotoGP's final race of the season at Valencia.

The Texan, who has just been confirmed two days ago as the replacement for James Toseland in the Tech 3 Yamaha team, is no stranger to MotoGP, having ridden for three races last year as a wildcard for the Suzuki squad, with whom he was contracted to while racing in the AMA Superbike championship.

He classified 14th, eighth and sixth at Donington, Laguna Seca and Indianapolis respectively.

Spies is currently second in the World Superbike championship with four races remaining, with the Yamaha rider being just three points off the lead.

The penultimate WSBK round is this weekend at Magny-Cours with the final round in Portugal on 23rd October, two weeks before MotoGP's season finale at Valencia.
