Ben Spies has played down his chances of taking a second straight MotoGP race win, despite qualifying second at Mugello.
The American dominated at Assen last week to secure his maiden victory in the world championship, and then put his Yamaha in the middle of the front row for the Italian Grand Prix in today's wet/dry session.
But he is not sure whether he has the pace to threaten to win this weekend.
"We're confident we have a good bike, but to challenge for the victory again... just because it happened last weekend, I know a lot of people are going to expect it and want more, which is great and we want to do it again," said Spies. "But we have to concentrate on making the bike a little bit better than it was today."
Spies explained that he was keen not to get carried away in the wake of his win in the Netherlands.
"I'm confident we can battle for the podium, and if battling for the win is possible then that's great," he said. "But we can't get in over our head and start thinking that every single race weekend we can go out for a win.
"The bike's working good, the conditions weren't ideal today. I wish we could've had the full hour. Tomorrow should be better, we hope, that's what they say. We'll work on our stuff, try and get a good start, and see what the race holds."
