ANGLETON, Texas (April 10, 2008) – During a great weekend of racing, drivers and volunteers raised more than $2,000 during the Think Pink Regional/National/Restricted Regional at MSR Houston, April 5 – 6.

Houston Region, in conjunction with Auto Racing for Charity Foundation, chose to support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for the event. The region donated the trophy fund for the weekend to support the foundation, and raised additional donations throughout the weekend. The racing was just as successful as the fund-raising.

Lone Star Region’s Bill Collins took the ITA win in a Mazda Miata over fellow Miata drivers Rick Hill and Clovis Huffman.

Another Lone Star member, Aaron McSpadden, walked away from the Spec Miata field and led the National race flag-to-flag. Andrew Rushing and Stuart Robinson followed.

Houston Region’s Tom Thrash (Mazda RX-7) and Tony Rivera (Mazda RX-8) mirrored their 2007 Runoffs performances by finishing first and second in E Production.

It was an all Houston podium in Spec Racer Ford as Charlie Shears, Johnny Meriggi and Paul Barnhart finished one-two-three.

Davis Parr (Texas Region) and James Rogerson (Houston Region) missed the melee on the start of the Group Four race to finish first and second overall, and in C Sports Racing.

Texas Regon’s Zak Kanter took the Formula Ford win in a Swift DB1, and Charles Hearn, of the Houston Region, won in Formula Vee at the wheel of a Protoform P2.

Driving a Porsche 997 Cup, Bruce Gingrich (Houston Region) opened up a 10-second lead over Paul Barnhart, Jr., for the overall win in the GT class. Barnhart won in GT-2 in a Porsche GT3 Cup.

Keith Young of the Texas Region took the Formula Atlantic win in a Pro Star Mazda, while Lone Star Region’s Bill Johnson took the Formula Continental win driving a Van Deimen RF00. Scott McQueen (Houston Region) took the Formula Enterprises win, and Davis Parr went two-for-two, backing up his CSR win with a win in Formula Mazda.

Next on the schedule for the Southwest Division is the Double National/Double Restricted Regional Sunburn Grand Prix at Texas Motor Speedway, May 2 - 4. For more information check out www.sowdivscca.org.
