Citroen is to enter Dani Sordo alongside Kimi Raikkonen on the Arctic Rally Lapland later this month. The event has long been earmarked for Raikkonen's debut in the Citroen C4 WRC that he will use in this season's World Rally Championship, but the team has now decided to send works driver Sordo as well. The Spaniard has relatively little experience on snow rallies and has yet to finish above fifth on a snow-based WRC event.
"Up to now I have only taken part in five events on ice and snow," said Sordo. "By racking up a few more kilometers on this specialized surface before Sweden, I'll be able to increase my experience in these conditions.
"I love driving on ice, but I feel that I still need to step up a gear in order to challenge the top drivers on snow events. There is only one winter rally on the WRC calendar this year, and I intend to be as well prepared for it as possible."
The Arctic Rally takes place from Jan. 28-30. Raikkonen contested the event last year in an S2000 Abarth Punto, long before his decision to switch from Formula 1 to the WRC. He will be run by the same Citroen Junior Team crew that will engineer his car all season.
