The leading crews in the Monte Carlo Rally face a big gamble ahead of this afternoon's stages, with snow falling on SS7.
The morning's two tests had been cold but clear, with all of the drivers taking a racing tire in varying compounds. The weather forecast is for significant snowfalls into the evening, and the same again tomorrow night.
Asked what his decision would be for the afternoon stages, rally leader Juho Hanninen said: "I really don't know at this point. I have no idea. When I was driving down from the last stage, the snow was coming. But how much? We don't know, and will it stay?
"The snow can be blown off the road and a soft slick is still the right answer. Now we go to the team, we listen to Michelin, we listen to the team, we listen to the weather crews and look at the data – and then we flip the coin!
"One thing is sure, though, if we take the slick and the road has snow then we are really in the s**t!"
The afternoon features a repeat of the morning's two stages.
