Elkhart Lake, Wis. (Aug. 21) – This weekend the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National
Presented by Mazda visits Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin and historic Road America for
Rounds 9 & 10 of the 2009 championship. For the first time this season, the Skip Barber
National is the featured event of the weekend, with the Skip Barber Summer Race Series
and Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge running in support.
Connor De Phillippi continues to be the class of the field; racking up seven podiums –
five of those wins – in eight opportunities. Entering Rounds 9 & 10 of the 2009
championship, the second year driver from San Clemente, Calif. gained five points on
second place driver Felipe Polehtto – for a 32-point lead – after a win and a second at the
last rounds at Barber Motorsports Park. MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development driver
Key Biscayne, Florida's Court Vernon strengthened his hold on third place at Barber
Motorsports Park with a pair of poles a second and his first career Skip Barber National
win. Canadian Kyle Marcelli moved up spot to fourth in the championship with a pair of
top five finishes in Alabama. Stevan McAleer, of Glasgow, Scotland, running on a
shoestring budget this season, rounds out the top five in the standings with four podiums
in eight races. MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development drivers continue to progress
this season, with Vernon in third, Dennis Trebing in sixth and Sage Karam in seventh.
