Alexander Sims will return to GP3 at the Nurburgring this weekend to stand in for Adderly Fong at the Status team.
Fong has to skip the race due to clashing commitments in China's Audi R8 LMS Cup and Porsche Carrera Cup at Ordos.
Sims drove for Status in GP3 in 2011 and for its World Endurance Championship LMP2 program last year. He is now a factory McLaren GT driver in the Blancpain Endurance Series.
"It's always tough going into a weekend having not driven the car, but I would hope with my experience that within the first five or 10 laps of free practice I should get an indication of the level of performance and then push very hard," said Sims, whose last single-seater start was in the the 2012 Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix with T-Sport.
"I'm not underestimating the challenge, so my plan is to just do everything I can and then see what happens."
In addition to his links with Status, Sims tested and driver coached for Fong's Sino Vision F3 team in 2011.
