British racing driver Alexander Sims will climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Henry Surtees Foundation. Sims was the late Surtees' teammate during the 2008 season in Formula Renault.
The Henry Surtees Foundation is a brain and physical injury charity that was set up following the death of Surtees in a crash during an F2 race in 2009. The 19,300ft climb will take nine days, starting on Jan. 28.
"Henry Surtees was my teammate in Formula Renault so raising money for his foundation is something that is very important to me," said Sims. "I took part in the Henry Surtees Memorial Karting Trophy last month but really wanted to do something to raise some extra money for the Foundation. 100 percent of donations go to the Foundation and I'm hoping everyone will get behind me and donate whatever they can."
