Alexander Sims has lost his front row grid slot for the GP3 season opener at Istanbul Park after he was penalized for going outside of the track limits on his best lap.
The Status GP driver made a small mistake going into the Turn 9/10 chicane, which meant that he went off track through the second part of it.
Sims felt after qualifying that the off-track moment had cost him pole position rather than gained him an advantage, but he has been given a 10-place grid penalty.
It means he will start 12th, while Andrea Caldarelli moves up to the front row. The Italian had already benefited from the penalty given to Lewis Williamson, which had moved the Italian from fourth to third on the grid.
