Scott Mansell will return to motor racing in the Superleague Formula at Donington Park next weekend.
The 23-year-old Briton is to take Duncan Tappy's place in the Galatasaray car. He last raced in 2006, when he was driving in the Indy Pro Series (now Indy Lights) in America.
"I've seen the Superleague Formula car run on a number of occasions and it looks like a great car," Mansell said. "A lot of the driving I have done has been in quick single-seaters, in particular ex-F1 cars which are close to the pace of the Superleauge Formula cars, so hopefully the transition will be a smooth one."
He acknowledged that it will be difficult to get straight on the pace, but hopes his previous experience will help. Mansell made his name driving old Formula 1 cars in the EuroBOSS series.
"There won't be an opportunity to test before practice begins on Saturday," he said. "There are three 30 minute sessions of practice before qualifying begins, so I should be well up to speed by then. Hopefully, the weather will remain consistent so I can get a good feel for the car.
"The last time I raced at Donington Park was in a '97 Benetton in EuroBOSS a few years back. I was on pole, won the race and set the outright circuit lap
record. It was a pretty good day!
"My last race was in '06, in IndyPro at the Indianapolis USGP. I was en route for a third or fourth when the car had an electrical problem and stopped. Since then I've been testing and developing ex-F1 cars for some clients. They're great to keep you fit and sharp."
