Michael Schumacher says he remains satisfied with his decision to come back to Formula 1 this year, despite a tough season with Mercedes.
The German driver made a sensational comeback three years after his retirement but, despite high hopes for the year, Schumacher failed to shine. He finished in ninth position in the standings, 70 points behind teammate Nico Rosberg. Schumacher, however, insists that he has no regrets about his decision.
"I enjoy it. I feel I have the right to do what I enjoy," Schumacher said in an interview with CNN. "Whether I put in dispute my reputation...I just feel good about my decision and I have so much support from people."
He insisted he is still determined to succeed again.
"I certainly want to make it a successful return," he said. "I'm only happy if I'm back on the winning road with the team. This is what I'm working for, this is the joy of the passion for Formula 1."
The seven-time World Champion conceded his return had not been as successful as he had hoped for, but is convinced his team has the right tools to win again.
"It's certainly not as successful as I thought initially and many other people have thought. But then having such a strong group and team behind, Mercedes pushing it so hard, I have no doubt about success in the future."
