TOPEKA, Kan. (March 19, 2008) – Central Florida Region’s Brian Schofield is the early leader in the race to win $3,000 and a professional racing simulator as part of the new iRacing.com Cup.
Off the strength of four-straight Spec Racer Ford wins with full fields to open the season, Schofield has a perfect 88 points to lead both the SRF class and overall. Tim Pitts (H Production), Henry Van Vurst (Spec Miata) and Mark Drennan (Spec Miata) are currently in a three-way tie for second place, with 76 points.
Other early class leaders include: Jean-Luc Liverato (DSR, 70 points), Harold Flescher (F Production, 50 points), Mark McCaughey (SSC, 49 points), Carolyn Kujala (SSB, 37 points), Jim Elder (F500, 35 points), Jack Corthell (FE, 34 points), Jerry Onks (T1, 33 points), Bret Spaude (T3, 33 points), Russ Lindermann (FM, 32 points), Dennis Andrade (FV, 31 points), Ken Shreve (EP, 26 points), Richard Roberts (T2, 24 points), Michael Kern (GT1, 22 points), Chris Qualls (AS, 19 points), Rossella Manfrinato (FC, 19 points), Jim Hargrove (GTL, 17 points), Robert Mayer (BP, 13 points), James Michael (FB, 12 points) and Randy Bailey (FF, 9 points).
New in 2008, the iRacing.com Cup will crown a single champion across all SCCA Club National classes. In addition to base points awarded for a driver’s finish, bonus points are awarded (10 maximum) for the number of cars a driver finishes ahead of in class. Base points will double at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs®.
More than $20,000 in cash and merchandise will be awarded, including $3000 cash and a professional-grade race simulator for the winner. Additionally, each class winner will receive a free iRacing.com membership.
