TOPEKA, Kan. (Jan. 18, 2006) – SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT drivers Max Papis and Max Angelelli have been selected as part of the official driver field for the 2006 Crown Royal International Race of Champions Series.

It will be the second year in a row in the IROC series for Papis, who will represent the road racing and open-wheel disciplines. Driving in all 11 SPEED GT events for eventual Manufacturers’ Champion Team Cadillac, “Mad Max” picked up a couple of wins in 2005 at Road Atlanta and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Papis finished the year fifth in the SPEED GT Drivers’ Championship point standings.

Papis’ Cadillac teammate, Max “The Ax” Angelelli, will also run in the 2006 IROC series, scheduled to run two events. In five SPEED GT events last season, Angelelli had one win (at Lime Rock Park) and earned the pole at Road Atlanta before finishing third as part of a 1-2-3 Cadillac effort. Through his efforts, Angelelli wound up 13th in the SPEED GT Drivers’ Championship.

Entering its 30th year, the Crown Royal IROC Series will consist of four races on diverse race tracks, which will include a road course (Daytona International Speedway – June 29th) for the first time in 14 years. The IROC Series winner will be awarded a $1 million Championship purse.
