TOPEKA, Kan. (Dec. 8, 2008) - Sports Car Club of America’s Board of Directors voted unanimously Friday to permit Touring 3 to compete at the 2009 SCCA® National Championship Runoffs®.
The T3 class did not meet requirements specified in section 3.9.2F of the General Competition Rules, which states that classes must maintain a minimum of 2.5 cars per race average throughout the National Club Racing season to be eligible to participate in the Runoffs.
The motion approved by the Board, which will appear in the January 2009 Fastrack® News publication, stated that the Board has waived this requirement for Touring 3 for the 2009 Runoffs. It also stated that it shall be eligible for the 2010 Runoffs should it meet the 2.5-car average to maintain National status per GCR section 9.1.12. Otherwise, the eligible cars will be combined with another class or T3 will revert to a Regional-only class.
The addition of Touring 3 to the Runoffs group of classes brings the total number to 25. At least two of the 25 classes will be combined for race days, with the number of races for 2009 set at 24 or less.
Touring 3 was first recognized as a National class in SCCA Club Racing in 2006.
