The Sauber team has been fined $20,000 for the unsafe release of Nick Heidfeld during Singapore Grand Prix qualifying.

Heidfeld, returning to grand prix action for the first time since last year, was released in front of the Mercedes of Michael Schumacher when the seven-time champion was driving down the pit lane.

Another returnee, Christian Klien, was fined twice for speeding in the pit lane during the day. His Hispania teammate Bruno Senna and Virgin's Timo Glock were also fined for the same offense.
