Takuma Sato said that it was not worth risking more than a couple of laps in today's wet second IndyCar practice session at Barber, despite ending the afternoon with the quickest time.
The Rahal Letterman Lanigan racer set a best time of 1:19.0536 early in the session before the rain became heavier. He parked his car in the pits after just three laps. His time was 7.8 seconds slower than that set by Will Power in the dry earlier in the day.
"If there was a chance of more rain on Saturday and Sunday then it's worth running, but since there's not much chance of that it wasn't worth doing," he said.
"I'm comfortable with what I'm driving. The winter wasn't so easy for us, but having had a relatively positive session this morning in the dry, I was reasonably happy with the car so let's hope that we have a good package."
Sato led twice during last weekend's season opener at St. Petersburg before retiring with a mechanical problem.
