Iowa IndyCar polesitter Takuma Sato was third quick in final practice in his No 5 KV Racing Technology-Lotus with a lap of 18.0025sec/178.775 mph. Unfortunately for Sato, he and Alex Tagliani made contact near the end of the sessio, causing damage to both cars. If his KV Racing Technology team can't get the car repaired, Sato will have to start from the back of the field in a back-up car.
"I was approaching on the outside at a much greater closing speed because I think he (Tagliani) was just coming out of the pits," related Sato. "I was running in the second lane and gave space, but unfortunately we were very close together and we touched. I didn't it want it this way during practice. Hopefully Alex's car is OK, and mine is OK is too."
